The Only Federally Approved CBD Beer Is Back in Production
A local breweria located in Aurora, Colorado, Dad and Dude's Breweria has begun production once again on their famous "George Washington's Secret Stash" beer after a long hiatus. The IPA can be found in the brewery on tap and in cans but what makes the beer standout among the rest is the infusion of 4.2 milligrams of CBD per pint. The company even has a patend-pending on the unique process they infuse the beverage with the cannabinoids. In the time of their hiatus other companies have attempted their own style of beer infused with CBD all of which recieved cease and desist letters by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). George Washington's Secret Stash was the only recipe to recieve the approval of the TTB. Once the 2018 Farm Bill passes in Congress later this week it will open doors for any company to begin producing their own CBD-infused drinks, but Dad and Dude's Breweria will still remain the first.
In September 2016, Dad & Dude's became the first — and only — brewery in the country to gain approval from the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) for a CBD-infused beer. (Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a hemp extract that doesn't get you high.) The bureaucratic process took about a year, because the TTB required a thorough analysis of the beer's ingredients and its recipe before it would grant formula approval.
